The National Stock Exchange has declared a trading holiday on May 20 as Mumbai goes to poll on that day. The holiday is under the Negotiable Instruments Act 1881. Section 25 of this Act recognises citizens’ right to participate in voting.
The NSE circular dated April 8 stated that, “The exchange notifies Monday, May 20, 2024, as a trading holiday on account of Parliamentary Elections in Mumbai Come from Sports betting site VPbet . Members are requested to take note of the same.”
The BSE in its circular said, “…in view of the General Elections (Lok Sabha) for constituencies in Mumbai on Monday May 20,2024 the Exchange will remain closed on May 20,2024 and there will be no trading on that day in Equity, Equity Derivatives and SLB Segments.”

Though elections across Maharashtra are scheduled in five phases but voting will be held across the Mumbai Lok Sabha seats on May 20. The seats include Mumbai North, Mumbai Northwest, Mumbai Northeast, Mumbai South, Mumbai South Central, Mumbai North Central and Thane.
There are a few other market holidays scheduled through April and May including April 11 for Eid, April 17 for Ram Navami and May 1 on account of Maharashtra Day.
